Grand Theft Auto VI, the biggest game of all time, is set to release on November 19, and fans have one major question: what happens to GTA Online? Rockstar Games has remained quite about the multiplayer component of GTA 6, but industry speculation and recent reports have provided few clues about what we can expect.
Will GTA 6 Have a New Online Mode?
At the time of writing this, Rockstar has not officially confirmed a new version of GTA Online. However, considering the massive success of GTA 5 Online,we can expect that GTA 6 will eventually feature some form of online mode.
The current GTA Online continues to attract millions of players and remains one of Rockstar’s most profitable games. Because of that success, many fans believe the studio is already working on a next-generation multiplayer experience tied to GTA 6.
One possibility is the launch of a completely new GTA Online built specifically for GTA 6. This version would likely take advantage of the game’s upgraded mechanics, larger map, and next-generation hardware.
Players could potentially explore Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grass Rivers, and other regions alongside friends in a shared online world.
While Rockstar has not confirmed any of these details, many expect GTA 6 Online to be one of the company’s biggest long-term projects.
Could Rockstar Keep the Current GTA Online?
Another possibility is that Rockstar continues supporting the existing GTA Online while gradually introducing GTA 6 content into it.
This approach would allow players on older platforms and PC to continue accessing the new mode without immediately upgrading to GTA 6. Rockstar could add new missions, vehicles, cosmetics, and even appearances from GTA 6 characters while maintaining the current ecosystem.
Given the enormous player base and ongoing revenue generated by GTA Online, some believe this is the safer option for Rockstar.
What About Transferring Progress and Cross-Platform Support?
Another question that arises is whether players will be able to transfer their GTA Online progress into a future GTA 6 multiplayer.
Considering how much time and money many players have invested into GTA Online, these topics remain a major concern within the community. Although nothing is official, we can expect Rockstar to work on this too as it just makes sense.
How Will GTA 6 Online Be Monetized?
If GTA 6 Online launches, Rockstar will likely continue using some form of premium monetization. The current GTA Online relies heavily on Shark Cards and GTA+ subscriptions.
We can expect similar systems to return, although Rockstar has not announced any official plans. The company will need to balance monetization with player satisfaction, especially given the massive expectations surrounding GTA 6.
The upcoming GTA 6 pre-order launch on June 25 could provide some answers.
For now, GTA 6 Online remains a big mystery. Whether Rockstar launches a completely new multiplayer platform or evolves the existing one, only time will tell.
