The GTA 6 map is shaping up to be the biggest and most detailed world Rockstar has ever built. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, a clear stand-in for Florida, with a modern Vice City at its center. Rockstar has officially confirmed six regions so far, and fans have pieced together a lot more from the trailers, screenshots, and years of community mapping work.
Here’s a clear breakdown of everything we actually know about the map, what’s confirmed by Rockstar, what’s been spotted in the trailers, and what’s still just rumor. We keep this page updated as new details drop.
Where is GTA 6 set?
GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida. It covers far more than a single city. Leonida includes a major metropolis, beach towns, swampland, farm country, islands, and forests, all connected in one open world.
The heart of it all is Vice City, the Miami-inspired city that first appeared back in 2002’s GTA: Vice City. This is a fully rebuilt, modern-day version, much larger and more detailed than the original, in the same way GTA 5’s Los Santos dwarfed the older San Andreas version.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar hasn’t shared an official size in square kilometers, so any exact number you see online is an estimate, not a fact. That said, the estimates are consistent: most fan analysis and mapping projects suggest Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s map (Los Santos plus Blaine County). Some analysts believe Vice City on its own is nearly as big as GTA 5’s entire map, which gives you a sense of the scale.
Just as important as the size is the density. Early footage suggests Rockstar has packed the world with detail rather than leaving large empty stretches, with environments shifting smoothly from city to swamp to coast.
All confirmed regions in Leonida
Rockstar has officially named six regions so far. Here’s what we know about each, along with the real-world place that seems to have inspired it.
Vice City
The neon-lit urban core of the map and the modern take on Miami. Expect pastel art-deco buildings, packed beaches, a busy cruise port, high-end hotels, and a nightlife scene. This is the main hub where a lot of the action takes place, and it’s the most detailed city Rockstar has built.
Leonida Keys
A chain of tropical islands south of Vice City, clearly modeled on the real Florida Keys. Think laid-back island life, clear water, boats, and a more relaxed pace than the city. A natural spot for water-based travel and activities.
Grassrivers
The swampy wetlands inspired by the Florida Everglades. This is the wild, untamed side of Leonida, full of marshes, waterways, and wildlife. Trailers have shown alligators and other animals here, and it has the feel of a place where people go to disappear.
Port Gellhorn
A rougher, blue-collar town away from the glamour of Vice City, with motels, docks, and a worn-down feel. Fans link its look to Florida’s Gulf Coast and Panhandle towns. It reads as a faded vacation spot that has seen better days.
Ambrosia
An industrial, agricultural town in the middle of the state, dominated by a large sugar refinery that provides most of the local jobs. It appears to be based on the real Florida town of Clewiston, known for sugarcane farming. A local biker gang is said to hold a lot of power here.
Mount Kalaga National Park
The forested, hilly wilderness in the north of the state, a clear change of scenery from the beaches and city. Expect dense woods, wildlife, and remote stretches far from the chaos of Vice City. This is the outdoorsy, nature side of the map.
Returning Vice City landmarks
Fans digging through the trailers have spotted several spots that look like updated versions of locations from the original Vice City and other Rockstar games. These aren’t all officially detailed yet, but the community widely expects places like Little Haiti, Washington Beach, and the Leaf Links golf course to return in some form. For longtime fans, these callbacks are a big part of the appeal.
Is Gloriana (Georgia) part of the map?
This one is a rumor, not a confirmation. Sharp-eyed fans noticed license plates in the second trailer that mention “Gloriana State,” which many believe is Rockstar’s version of Georgia. If it’s real, Gloriana would likely sit to the north, near Mount Kalaga.
There’s debate about what this means. Some think Gloriana will only appear as a reference, while others believe it could be added later as an expansion. Until Rockstar says something official, treat it as an interesting clue rather than a fact.
Will the GTA 6 map get bigger after launch?
There’s strong reason to expect the world to grow over time. GTA Online kept GTA 5 alive for more than a decade with regular updates, and reports suggest Rockstar plans a similar long-term approach for GTA 6, adding new content and possibly new areas after launch rather than dumping everything at once.
Nothing here is set in stone, but the pattern from past games makes ongoing expansion very likely. If Gloriana or other regions do become playable, this is probably how they’ll arrive.
